Read full description of the books D.Gray-man 7:Volume 7 of the D. Gray-Man manga series was probably, (and strangely) one of my favorites in this series even though most of of it was set-up. BUT SPECTACULAR SET-UP. Anyway, with Allen injured, and forced to possibly face life as a an ex-exorcist, Lenalee, Lavi and co. are given a new mission under the command of an old friend: Miranda. Tensions run high, and Hoshino delivers an exciting pace to this volume with lots of character development, and set-up for the next emerging arc.
I really enjoyed this recent volume to the D. Gray-Man series, with its great mix of character development for my favorite 3 (Allen, Lenalee and Lavi), and the set-up with both Allen's arm, and Miranda's emergence as a major player in this steampunk world. The pace, the art, everything was here for me to desperately want to continue to the series and find out what's going to happen next to my favorite exorcists.
The art was really interesting in this volume for me personally, because this is where I started to realize the maturity of Hoshino's art style, and her development of it from fun, cute chibi-like characters to sharp-edged, serious ones that is a kind of analogy for the progress of this series as a whole. Lavi is perhaps where I saw the difference the most because he becomes so serious and mature physically in this volume (or earlier, I just noticed it here), reflecting the tole the world and the plot has had on him like the other characters.
While I really liked this movement from cute and funny to serious, I have to admit I do miss those cute jokes every once in a while. I'm hoping Hoshino will continue to draw on those, and intermingle both the hilarity and the seriousness of this series, because it works so well, and hey, melodramatic shonens? Eh. 4.5/5
