Read full description of the books My Dearest Holmes:"The accounts of these cases are too bound up with events in my personal life which, although they may provide a plausible commentary to much of my dealings with Mr Sherlock Holmes, can never be public while he or I remain alive."
Although Dr Watson is known for recording some sixty of his adventures with the celebrated Sherlock Holmes, he also wrote other reminiscences of their long friendship which were never intended for publication during their lifetimes. Rescued from oblivion by Rohase Piercy, two previously unknown stories about the great detective and his companion help to explain much which has puzzled some devotees.
Together Holmes and Watson face disturbing revelations as they investigate the case of the Queen Bee; and we finally learn what actually happened at the Reichenbach Falls and the real reasons which lay behind Holmes' faked death and subsequent return.
Read information about the authorRohase Piercy was born, raised and educated in London but has lived in Brighton for the last thirty-odd years. Her debut novel, 'My Dearest Holmes', was published by GMP Publishers back in 1988 and met with howls of outrage by the Sherlock Holmes Society and the mainstream media. By the time it was republished by the author in 2007 however, the homoerotic subtext to the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in Conan Doyle's writing was being widely and publicly discussed.' MDH' has since been published in Italian (Tre Editori, 2011) and Japanese (Shinshokan, 2015).
'The Coward Does It With A Kiss', a fictional diary of Oscar Wilde's wife Constance, was published by GMP in 1990. It is currently out of print, though Rohase hopes to bring it back into circulation in the near future.
A children's story illustrated by Nina Falaise, 'What Brave Bulls Do', published by Budding Press in 2010, has also been republished by the author.
After a long hiatus spent bringing up a family and fruitlessly pursuing agents and publishers with her latest offerings, Rohase has now brought out two new novels:
'A Case Of Domestic Pilfering' is a companion piece to 'My Dearest Holmes' rather than a sequel, being a reworking of a story originally written by another author (Charlie Raven) at around the same time, back in the 1980s. It presents Holmes and Watson through the eyes of another couple, Guy Clements and Max Fareham, with whom they become embroiled through a series of misunderstandings.
'Before Elizabeth' is a Jane Austen pastiche, presenting the courtship of Elizabeth Bennet by Fitzwilliam Darcy through the eyes of Darcy's cousin Anne de Bourgh, the 'spoilt, sickly' daughter of his formidable aunt Lady Catherine.
At first glance Rohase's work may seem extremely diverse, but she insists there is a connecting thread running through all of her writing - the possibility of an alternative point of view. There is always another perspective to be explored, another story waiting to be told!
